Malicious file path can brick Windows 7 and 8

May 31, 2017

Computers with Windows 7 and Windows 8 contain a bug, which can lead to system hang. All an attacker needs to do is to access a nonexistent file in C:\$MFT\* (ie.: cd C:\$MFT\a). And from that point the only help is reseting the computer. The bug is tied to NTFS file-system which is commonly used by these OSes.
